Leaf contains silicic acid, formic acid, mineral salts, phytosterin, vitamin A, vitamin C, enzymes, wax, lecithin, carbonic acid, ammonia, mucilage, phosphates, iron, and chlorophyll. Root contains tannin. Leaf is depurative, bloodbuilding, astringent, stimulant, tonic, anti-asthmatic, anti-bronchial, diuretic, haemostatic, and vaso-constricting. Root is astringent. Nettle is traditionally used to relieve the discomfort and problems associated with asthma caused by allergies. It is effective for childhood eczema. It may be helpful for those experiencing itchy eyes caused by allergies. Nettle is a good source of nutrition, especially chlorophyll, and is an excellent supplement during pregnancy. Also called Urtica dioica.
