Same as for E. angustifolia. Widely used in Europe, but not native there. Most commercial W. German Echinacea preparations utilize extracts of above ground parts and roots of E. purpurea. Extracts are used to stimulate nonspecific defense mechanisms at infections and chronic inflammations.
