Slippery Elm is demulcent and emollient. Useful internally for diarrhea, coughs due to colds, etc. Externally as a poultice for skin irritation and in rectal and vaginal suppositories. Demulcent, emollient, nutritive. It is used to soothe and allay irritation of mucous membranes. It stops diarrhea caused by irritation of the gastrointestinal lining and is especially good for soothing sore throats and irritated respiratory passages.
